Nadal Reaches the Finals

Nadal overcame Marin Cilic to secure the semi-final victory 7-5, 7-6(3), reaching his 111th final and 10th of the year. It marks the fifth time in his career that he has contested at least 10 title matches in a single season. He reaches the finals with a optimistic attitude and ready for battle.
“Very happy. Of course I played I think a very high level of tennis,” Nadal said. “[It] was a great match again. I don’t know what he said, if he already talked or what he’s going to say later, I don’t know, but in my opinion, he played well, too. Was a great, good quality of tennis this afternoon.”
“I was hitting unbelievable shots off the ground, and against other guys they would be winners,” Cilic said. “Or just with serving, serving well, that would be either an ace or winner, and he makes you play another shot.”
“We are at the highest level of our sport, so nobody wins easy,” Nadal said. “If you want to compete in the most important events of the year and try to go for the victories, for sure you’re going to have tough matches, and today was one of them.”
Cilic played out of his skin, and yet, after all his efforts, he still wasn’t able to subdue the defiant Rafa. Rafa’s tennis skills and mental fortitude got him out of this one. Rafa will stand up to the test against Roger tomorrow. It will be one of the best matches of the season so far.

Federer Moves on to the Finals

Federer beat Del Potro with a score of 3-6 6-3 6-3 after an exhausting match.
After the match, Del Potro stated: “ I think he beat me in a good way. He played better in just couple of moments in both sets, and that was the only reason for my loss.”
He admitted he made the final decision that he would play while warming up, having been advised it would not risk his wrist.
“I have been playing good tennis this week, and I felt good during the warm-up before the match, so I decided to play, because it is always an honour to play against Roger,” said del Potro. “The court was really fast, so maybe that would help my game.
“I think I did well, but Roger played much better than me in some moments of the match, and he took the chances. It’s very painful now after the match. After a big effort is the worst moment for my wrist.
“Now I have few days to take a rest. If, in these days I feel better to compete 100 per cent during the whole tournament, I will continue with my schedule.”
Moving on, Federer will play Rafael Nadal in a legendary final at the ATP World Tour Masters tournament in Shanghai. This encounter will mark their 48th meeting, during the interview del Potro states that he thinks that only Nadal is capable of beating Federer in this form on the fast Shanghai courts.
“I think the court helps [Federer’s] game a lot, and he always is in good shape,” said del Potro. “He looks like an unbelievable athlete. I think on this court not many players can beat him. Maybe Rafa tomorrow, but if not, he’s the only one who can play an excellent tennis on this faster surface.”
He continues to add that “Rafa is playing so good, but I think Roger could win if he feels the ball really, really well. Because the court is so fast, and for the game of Roger it is much better than Rafa’s game, but Rafa is a fighter and he never gives up. It will be interesting to watch.”
