Bright sun, blue sky and the warm ocean surrounding you… Over the course of three days, the 18 of us discovered the beautiful island of Elba, from its marine life to its gelato. We began our trip with a bus ride to Piombino, the small town from which we would catch the ferry to the island. The ferry ride was calm and pleasant, with the warm mediterranean sun beaming down on us, boding well for the days to come. Once we arrived, we settled into our hotel, and explored the small town. We had an interesting tour of the aquarium which hosts the largest collection of sea creatures found only in the mediterranean, in all of Italy. After the aquarium visit, we were treated to some delicious gelato. Back at the hotel, we ate dinner and relaxed in our rooms, excited for the day ahead of us.

The next day was filled with new and adventurous activities for all of us. We started the day with a scuba diving theory lesson, and then did our try dives in the pool, because the ocean was too rough for us to dive in. We all stretched our comfort zones as we experimented with being underwater, but it was an overall positive experience. After lunch, we socialized and rested and soon we embarked on our next adventure: a hike up a mountain, with the promise of a spectacular view which, needless to say, did not disappoint. After an hour of trekking up the mountain, with frequent stops to admire the ocean and the sunset, we reached the top, where we were greeted by an old lighthouse and the amazing (as promised) view. The ocean stretched out to what seemed like the farthest corners of the earth, and we watched in fascination as the sun set over the hills of the island. Soon, however, it was time to return back to the hotel, so we made our way down the mountain and along the ocean shore, scrambling over rocks and stepping through seaweed. After a long day, we were happy to be back at the hotel, and to spend the evening with friends.

On our final day in Elba, we visited the old iron mines, and became familiar with the windy roads of the island. All too soon, it was time to return to the ferry and make our way back to Rome. After these three days, we were closer than before and made memories that we will be sure to never forget.
