The National Park of the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano is the perfect place for a fall trip. The hiking, sitting by the fires, and the good food were just examples of the good times we had there. With a fun group of 23 people bus rides that went up to 7 hours and tiring walks in the dark back to our rooms after dinner were made enjoyable and resulted in stomachs hurting from laughter. The hikes were beautiful and surrounded by orange, brown and yellow leaves floating down around us, giving a cozy feeling that autumn is finally here. The agriturismo we stayed at, Montagna Verde, is in a quaint little town with little to no inhabitants at the top of a mountain. Just above it is a forest of chestnut trees, the products of which they use for flour that’s made into pasta and bread. All the food was local and dinners were delicious and authentically Italian filled with antipasti, primi, secondi, contorni, and desserts. The rooms are all in one building and are charming and equipped with kitchens and comfortable beds. At the bottom floor there is a common room with a fireplace, a tv, and many board games that were often played very enthusiastically. While some of the hiking may have been tiring and the tour guide’s stories may have sometimes droned on a bit, the students and teachers on the trip made everything completely worthwhile and something that I would do again in a heartbeat.
